Grassland Bird Trust, Inc. (“GBT”) is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit land trust that protects critical and vanishing grassland habitat for endangered, threatened, and rapidly declining grassland birds including Bobolinks, threatened Northern Harriers, and endangered Short-eared Owls.

Grassland birds are the fastest declining group of birds in the U.S.  Since 1970, 53% of grassland birds have disappeared from the U.S.  This is largely due to habitat loss.  Grassland birds depend on hayfields, pastures, and similar agricultural lands for essential habitat. New York’s grassland bird habitats are rapidly disappearing due to development, reforestation and intensified modern agricultural mowing practices.
